Exactly what I am looking to do! Component pricing is crazy now.

quote:Have you downloaded a WiFi analyzer to determine your conditions around you? There may be interference. You can log in and go use channels that receive the least amount of interference. I had the same issue until I did.
Drops connection 20x a day. Apparently it's a common problem. Glad yours works well.
Here is what made all the difference in my system and made it stable and usable all over my house instead of spotty and unstable, losing connections multiple times a day.
I analyzed the interfering WiFi around me and set the Orbi up on channels for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz where there was no interference at all.
I tested which DNS servers are best from my location, the ISP's servers and others, like Google, using a program called DNS Jumper. Turned out that Google's Servers were the fastest and most stable. For reference, if you want to try setting these up as primary and secondary servers, the DNS IP addresses are:
For IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and/or 8.8.4.4.
For IPv6: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and/or 2001:4860:4860::8844
Also, I could have set up my Orbi as an Access Point and let the Modem handle all the DHCP functions. Instead, I disabled the DHCP functions of the Arris modem used by Spectrum and allowed the Orbi to handle that alone. This made the system more stable since they weren't (not even sure this is the right way to put it) competing with each other to do that. Basically, I just eliminated whatever handshake they had to make.
Other than get rid of the unstable system errors, I wanted to eliminate the Double NAT situation that occurs when you don't make these changes. Why? I wanted to be able to open a port in the system to allow access to my Plex Server from outside the home. Couldn't do this with a double NAT. Now, no problem and the the Orbi system works perfectly.
I would definitely recommend going through those steps before giving up on it. Good luck.

Amazon Cloud Cam is $60 a piece right now. Anybody have some?
Was gonna get some Nest Cams but at that price I’d be willing to try the Amazon ones and they have really good reviews.

I'm curious too. Reviews seem to be mixed. Blink cameras are on sale too FWIW.

Same here. Reviews are spotty, but worth a shot at that price

I have 2 of these as well however they cover the whole plug. The newer mini models are the way to go.

This would be great of Amazon could integrate this with their Ring ecosystem especially with the new alarm system.
Interior cameras are a hole in Ring's lineup

I need a new router. Can I replace the AT&T UVerse router with a new one or do I have to keep theirs?
It sucks dick.

depends on if you have the router/modem combo from them (you could still update this)

Is the Ring Doorbell pro THAT much better than the 2?
I think so. I've had both.

I have 3 things from them in my entertainment center: a router box, the UVerse DVR box, and a separate router that sends a signal to the wireless cable boxes in other rooms.
Does that mean I have a router/modem combo? I assume so. How do I replace that? Is it possible?
Because the wireless signal blows even though I pay for their best internet.

You just need to buy a separate router and use it as an access point..or find a mesh system on sale today

They work great for me. I was able to capture a local kid stealing a package off my porch while I was in another state. I put his picture out on social media and he was identified in 30 minutes, with the parent contacting me in 2 hours promising that he would return the package.
The batteries in them last around 1-2 years at a time (lithium AA). Records up to 60 second clips at 1080P and stores in the cloud for no charge. My only gripe with them is that I can't screen off sections for motion detection, so I'm constantly getting clips of cars passing. Other than that, they've worked great.
