I have 2 of the Polk 10" powered subs.

You can catch them as low as $99 if you watch Amazon.

I have been very happy with both of them (2 separate rooms).

Bought my parents one. Tough to beat for a budget sub.

Living room is pretty close to 20'x20'. But it's an open floor plan, so there's no real wall separating it from my kitchen if that matters.

That's pretty big. I can't find my floorplans but that might be a little bigger than mine. I have a Klipsch RW-12D. It's 350 RMS and ~875 Peak. It does well enough. It could be better if we didn't have wood floors and proper placement (wife's fault).
