PostgreSQL help needed (installation)

While I know basic and intermediate stuff about SQL queries, I know nothing about software, though I'm interested.
My question is about installing Stack Builder with PostreSQL. Do I need to install all of the apps that come with it? What do they do?
I just tried installing most of them and the program was "Not Responding" so I gave up.
Any help is appreciated!

On windows? You install it and it's up, turn off your firewall.
