Anyone know of a device that would monitor power on a particular outlet and alert me via email or text when power is lost? We have a big freezer in the garage where we keep a lot of food. A few weeks ago the gfi tripped and we didn't notice until it started to smell. Lost a lot of stuff that day. including a weekend's worth of fish.

Would be great if I could get alerted so we can react in time to avoid this in the future.

TIA

you could put a small lamp on it with an LED bulb that won't cost any money and will last for years.

no. Was hoping for some sort of device with a phone app that could send out alerts.

this would work. But, I'm out of town a lot. so, if i got an alert i could get someone at home to reset the gfi.

thinking of ideas. i don't use any wifi outlets, so i don't know what their native apps can do. trying to think of something for you to keep on your local network.

what router do you use?

NetGear AC1750

looked around for something like the PDUs we use in our server racks or a ups that can connect to wifi. Haven't found one yet.

the thing is you need an external device (not on the same circuit) to monitor it. I was thinking of a way of setting up a device to ping the smart outlet every hour or so. If it doesn't respond, then send an email/text. Could maybe use IFTTT. I've never used the service, so I can't help there.

No, just something that has battery backup to send out notifications. You can get a Ring alarm. It notifies when it's on battery backup, but that'd be 1 expensive tool, lol

A freezer or fridge should not be on a GFI outlet.

They make smart thermometers for freezers that do what you want. Guys on the outboard forum use them at their camps to be alerted if the camp freezer goes out.

What about a cheap security type cam, some of them will send you an email/text/app alert if it loses power or disconnects from WiFi. I dunno if Wyze came have that feature, but they're $25.

Edit: NVM, that smart thermometer looks legit.

I knew a guy whose parents owned a haagen daz over 15 years ago that had an alert that called their house if the freezer went out so this is definitely possible.

Perfect for refrigerators and freezers that are kept in the garage, basement or other out-of-the-way locations.

sounds like a possibility. Doesn't really help for when i'm away but, it's a start.
