Need some recommendations on my outdoor setup. I will have a TV (50”) on the wall would like to have 2 speakers in each corner (approx 10’ on each side of the TV) and possibly a sound bar under the TV.

I would like the option to play music on the speakers and also the TV audio as well. Don’t think I would ever need to split them up (Tv on sound bar and music on speakers)

And suggestions on what to go with: TV, speakers etc.

Also thinking of going with a wireless Directv Box (main box would be about 15’ from wireless box in the room above it) so I am hoping signal issues wouldn’t be a problem. Hard to run a coax cable down the exterior wall. Anyone have success with this?

There are simpler ways to do it than I did. Probably less expensive as well. But I don't regret anything because it's a quality setup.

Anyways, find yourself a network capable A/V receiver. Personally I like Yamaha because it's good equipment, and their app is awesome with FULL functionality. Be sure the receiver you choose has Spotify, Pandora, etc. built in to it for your music, unless you don't mind using Bluetooth/airplay, etc. You can decide whether you need the receiver to be wired, or wireless to get it on your network.

Next, add whatever components you like and wire it all up.

I have an old powered Sony subwoofer in my attic placed over the boxing of the house. It sounds great from there and is protected from the elements. The two outdoor surround speakers come from Lowes and I am very pleased with them. I also have two larger outdoor speakers mounted up on the house that I found on black Friday a few years ago.

I have no TV outside but if and when I decide to add one, everything else is all there waiting.

It all depends on your situation and how your patio is set up honestly.

For TV, I wouldn’t bother with a special outdoor tv. I know too many people that have just gotten a plain/cheap HD tv that has lasted them plenty of years.

For speakers, best I can do is tell you what I’m doing in 2 weeks:
I have surround sound inside and getting a 2 zone receiver to hard wire 2 speakers on the outside. It’s a new build and I have great access over the patio so it will be pretty easy for me. I also ran hdmi cables during the build so that made it easier.

If you get a receiver (I also recommend Yamaha for all the reasons the poster above said) I wouldn’t keep it outside so you would probably need a place inside that is close to store it.

I agree with the above message. My receiver is in an outdoor closet accessible from the patio. But you can get cheaper receivers than Yamaha and protect it as best you can and it'll likely last a few years. Basically treat it as you would the TV. But they give off heat even when they're not on. Birds will want to build nests on it and shite in it. This might be personal experience! Fortunately that one was an old Pioneer that i wasn't using much anyway.

If you choose to do what the above poster suggests with the two zone receiver, be sure the second zone is capable of powering more than two channels or speakers, unless that's all you want out there. A lot of them are limited to two channels on the second zone if memory serves me. I have a Yamaha both indoors and outdoors. They're both capable of dual zone and tbh i have no idea how many channels are supported for the second zone if i chose to use it. I'm also not sure how using a dual zone receiver would satisfy your TV needs outside the house... so be sure to look into this.

If you don't want to run speaker wires, i can tell you that Yamaha MusicCast is some quality stuff, but it ain't cheap. I had to replace my indoor receiver a few months ago and i found the one i wanted that came bundled with a music cast speaker. It's badass. I keep it in the spare room and use it when i run on the treadmill.

LINK

Above is what i have outside. It's hardwired. Not wireless because i have easy access in the attic. It's also discontinued. So look for the comparable model still being produced.

Above is what i have inside. Again, it's discontinued but it's an awesome receiver!

The prices are not indicative of what i paid for them. Especially the outside model. I'd not pay that much for it today. The indoor one is a great deal at that price! I paid a lot more just before it got discontinued. Pissed me off. But i like the receiver a lot.

The indoor model replaced an old rxv-677 (Yamaha). I'd recommend it highly if you can find one.
