Question...

Is there a way to take an old iphone and set it up with a separate apple ID to only use on Wifi? Sometimes my old phone will ring or get face time calls when it is on wifi and i have no clue why.
I searched and see things about setting up for a child but don't want it linked at all to my account

any help or direction is appreciated.

haha.. i got 3 kids, no money or time for something like that.. The other day my kid answered a business call on my old phone (which I still have no clue how it rings) and my client is a pretentious arse and made it seem like it was a huge inconvenience a 5 year old answered the phone... just trying to avoid it happening again!

Take the sim card out, set up a new apple ID and it will only use WiFi. I did this with an older one that my kids play with.

Seems like it. It's unfortunate that it's a client and you can't offer to punch him in the throat and sweep the leg.

I think you can go under settings--> phone---> then delete the phone #, pull the SIM too.

Even if you are going to use an iPhone SIM-less, you still need a SIM to set it up from scratch, and I believe even to restore a backup, so keep the one you remove.

Did you do a factory reset on it? If that doesn't work, set a password, and get the password wrong 10 times or so and it will do a clean reset.
