CAD, have you seen you can hack the relay to run other Android apps? Saw someone running a security camera app. Also a music player connected to bluetooth speaker.

Hey you and CAD,. My schlage just quit working. Changed batteries, still nothing. How should I troubleshoot this?

So troubleshooting much detail

I'm going to need a little more to go on than that description.

If the electronics on the lock aren't working just call schlage and they'll send you a new one for free. They actually answer the phone when you call.

CAD should have an extra one he can send you

Not sure there's much you can do besides unscrewing it and making sure the cables are still connected.

i mispoke..its umm, permanently broken. yeah, just throw that pos in a box and mail it to me so i can properly recyle it.

seriously, i would see if there's a short somewhere in the wiring. unless you fried something, you should get it to light up when the batteries are connected. i can't imagine its unfixable.

i would keep playing around with it, jiggling some wires & see if you can't get it to at least beep or light up.

there was one time when it rained so much and was so humid there was condensation on the inside of the unit. i know one of the board is coated in something but it shorted something out. It isnt moist in there nor has it been humid here. so idk.

I'm debating on buying one of these. Do you guys like the particular brand you have? I'm considering waiting but I don't know what innovative new feature could possibly come out for a door lock so I may as well do it now. Assuming they are reliable.

you may end up with 4. they shipped 2 to me to replace the one i had that wasnt working.

i want a finder's fee for telling you to jiggle the wires.

get rechargeable batteries.
schlage is the bomb; at least on wink..you can remotely set temporary codes and give them names like 'mom and dad' so you get a notification of exactly WHO is opening the door to your house and when.

bonus: they have 3 levels of 'tamper alert' alarms that can be set on the lock or in wink. very cool..an unexpected security feature that works very well.

So I'm curious, do they verify that you actually own the lock before shipping a replacement?

I'm going to give wink a try. I shipped off my wink hub yesterday to be repaired. The first thing I want to automate is some exterior soffit lighting. I want a switch that I can program to a specific schedule. Any recommendations?

It's done within the app so any of the wink compatible switches will do that. I have my outside lights on a sunset/sunrise schedule.

I use the Lutron casetas because they do the require a neutral and I live in an old house. Overall they are reliable and I would recommend.

I think this is about to change but they weren't compatible with smartthings when I bought my wink hub. So you will be locked down to wink if you go with them over some other option.
