Note this is the NICE 8580 with touchscreen not the 8560 with the little white rubber buttons. The touchscreen is for ballers and the nipples are for chumps
Eta the 8580 is oemed with higher end HVAC systems notably in high end office buildings.
Now when you see the nipple units at a dentist office you can laugh quietly to yourself at the poors

That's the one I asked santa for.
What do you know about home security? I'm looking to get a wireless diy system with probably the Honeywell Lynx

I've been messing with the robots and it appears that I have to have a sensor to detect if the temperature falls out of a certain range so I can get the thermostat to automatically switch between heat and cold. Is that right?

Hmm...I already have a Nest 2nd gen, but the house I'm moving too has two units, so I wonder if it would just as good to get this or go with another Nest

Read the reviews on the Honeywell units. You get 95% of the nest functionality for 1/4 the price on the amazon warehouse Honeywell's.
Personally I like the professional look of these units over the nest.
Eta both wotk with wink hub if you own one.

Bump for new wink app.
Wear issues fixed.. Shortcuts work properly.
Biggest change is you can finally create widgets from shortcuts!
Now you can have a unlock or garage open button on your home screen and not have to dig for the wink app and then look for your device to interact.
Garage door still can't be automated from robots or schedule however

update for whodat:
wink is playing games with chamberlain garage door opener. i'm actually kinda pissed about this because either chamberlain is fighting with them so they aren't truly integrating this the way other products are, or they're deliberately sand-bagging on it because they have their own sensor coming out in January and they want it to be a more attractive solution.
oh and the honeywell thermostats are acting goofy in the new version of the wink app.
oh and they removed a bunch of 'if..' options on the robots..to close up the loophole i guess where I triggered my door lock based off the light turning off at night.
i'm trying to give these frickers the benefit of the doubt but
DONT TAKE AWAY SOME OF THE ONLY ACTUAL USEFUL FUNCTIONALITY.
who the frick cares about turning lights on with your phone..how about useful shite like checking the garage and door locks each night and locking them if they're open.
frick you wink. bring back my missing functionality.

Damn. This sucks. Wink is about to flatline. Companies are figuring out they want to produce/keep these features in house and will shut wink out.

i think i might try creating my own z-wave mesh network in my house. was debating on getting a Wink but damn sounds like they are making it too difficult. at least with a usb z-wave thumb stick i can program everything on my PC. Thinking on going with openHAB for my backend.
CAD have you looked into something like this: Z-Wave garage door opener ? Thought i read the wink hub supports multiple protocols.

I got an Insteon starter kit and garage door sensor/opener for christmas. Looks like I can add a good bit of stuff to it and it has bridges for different door locks/other things. A lot of their stuff is dual band, so it communicates via power lines or wirelessly. It also works with Nest. I can add sensors to doors and trigger other things to happen if I choose to go that far. Happy with it so far.

apparently my hub crapped out. the light stays solid green. this thing is a piece of shite.

I could get into this if light switches or electrical outlets didn't start at $50. Just too high of an entry fee for me still.

It updated. Just exit the app and go back in. You might have to turn the hub off and on but it should be fine.

What were you doing when you got the green light? You can always swap it at home depot if you got a lemon.

Prices are dropping. Remember this hub works with all different brands.. You're not locked into a certain switch or dimmer if you see other ones cheaper you like.
On a related note has anyone seen the new wink commercial with the pervert robot checking out the woman's arse while she's doing aerobics in front of the TV?
Odd way to sell a product.

I have exited the app and unplugged the hub several times but it always says there is an update and then it just sits. Light always stays blue.
I also got my kwikset lock added but its flaky and stops working and I have to unplug hub to get it working again.
Edit: I reset the hub and now it says server not responding.

so far nothing but issues with this hub. My kwikset lock was added and it worked for about 20 minutes and now it doesn't and I cant remove it from the hub. The app always tells me it needs to update the hub.
