My 2gig go control panel has done that for the last 5 years. Welcome to 2011 Wink.

You do understand this trick has nothing whatsoever to do with wink.

It's a hack to get wink to speak notifications.

It's a shame as easy as it is to program text-to-speech that wink did not add this very useful feature from the beginning.

All it would have taken is a simple checkbox that says "speak this notification"

Damn. So Wink is like an iPhone ? You have to hack it to be worth a damn.

Well I did pay 99 cents for the entire wink hub system so a 30 second free app download to add speaking notifications isn't such a hardship....

so i started adding my home automation doodads to a google sheet in case of wink-op-alypse and i have to add them to a new hub and need the 'friendly labels' back that i've given them.

i'm over 100 and still going strong

had no idea that many fricking things had snuck into my house. even at discount prices thats alot of shite i've installed.

at the moment i think only the wink relay would not be able to move to a new hub but i think it should still work for the hard-wired switches (i hope) even if the wink cloud goes bye-bye.

CSB i know but its not a bad idea for those who have a bunch of automated devices to inventory what and where if you ever need to pair them up again.

couldn't have been easier to install. i need to take a pic of it.

wired it to a 3 gang box (third switch wasn't controlling anything..odd..) and it look sweet.

it took forever to update (updated like 3 times) but now its good.

top 'load' switch controls 2 wall outlets that i have 2 lamps plugged into

bottom 'load' switch controls the fan

i set up nice icons (one for lamps & one with ceiling fan) and the UI is neat..the fan icon pops up (either yellow or gray depending if its on/off) when i hit the bottom button and lamp icon does the same for the top.

even the wife liked that

temp & humidity sensors seem accurate and no crazy reading like others have said.

the 'test' of the loads was weird. it only works if you HOLD THE BUTTON DOWN. its not like a true on/off so for a minute i thought i messed up my ceiling fan because it only moved a bit..but once the relay is installed it works like a normal switch.

i will caution you to make SURE you know what the switches are configured for when you set it up because i tried to skip that part then it was a pain-in-the-arse to go in and add them later..you can't actually fix them from the relay..you have to go find your phone and fix them there. even after you fix them on the phone, they wouldn't sync correctly back to the relay and only by trial and error did i finally get them to work. unfortunately i dont remember what i did so i can't give you the steps.

IN SHORT, DONT frick UP THE SWITCHES

the 2 'button' lights show up in the wink app as well so you can control them just like anything else..its basically a glorified 'tapt' switch but it controls 2 different switches.

you also can't change the name from 'relay top load switch' and 'relay bottom load switch' from the relay. WTF. but you can rename in the wink app and it will ***EVENTUALLY*** show up on the relay with the correct names and icons. the custom icons wont show up right away on the relay either.

one time during a reboot it said it couldnt find the internet connection and there was a big 'ok' button at the bottom. i hit it and it didn't seem to reigster so i hit it about 10x in a row..then all of a sudden it changed screens and flashed for 5 seconds so it must have been registering my touches bu it was busy doing some shite and didn't respond to me.

after all the updates no problem with latency or anything.

other than that its cool; proximity works perfect, screen lights up when i approach it.

oh, one other thing; the 'LIGHT!' shortcut was on the first 'screen' (you'll see what i'm talking about) and in swiping i accidently turned everything on and because it was daytime i didn't notice for about an hour. to move these around, just press & hold it down and it will allow you to drag the shortcuts around.

i chose to put 'all floodlights on' and 'alarm OFF' as the 2 shortcuts on the main screen. i figured those were the most useful since the floodlights switches are all over my house.

so yes, i like it so far.

Awesome. I'm still hesitant over the while dont wire into a line with an outlet. I assume that means if an outlet is on the same breaker. Pretty sure the majority of mine are wired together.

Eta: supposedly, an update is currently in Beta with at least intercom functionality

i added a few revisions to my post above you might want to re-read a couple of warnings.

i dont quite get that either..one of my 'loads' is controlling 2 wall outlets. wouldn't that mean they're on the same breaker?

its those old school outlets where the top outlet is linked to a wall switch and can be turned on and off.

that would be cool...if i had more than one

my house is VERY long and the one i installed is all the way at one end (living room) and a second one in my bedroom would be perfect.

eta have you tried out my 'shouter' trick? give it a spin.

its worth it for me because i have an 18yo that lives downstairs and he tends to leave the kitchen/garage door ajar and i'm afraid the 18mo old is going to fall down the stairs. before i just got a 'beep' when the door was left open.

now i get a 'WINK SAYS KITCHEN GARAGE DOOR LEFT OPEN' in addition to the beep. i have that running on an android tablet that stays plugged in so everyone can hear it.

I have the Wink hub and I am looking for a zwave window/door sensor that also has an audible chime or one that can be used along with a separate siren.

ETA: I found an Aeon Labs siren that looks to do what I want but I can't figure out if it is compatible with wink.

Head to Home Depot and hope they have the GoControl Premium Suite left. It includes window sensors and an alarm.

Eta: looked at shouter, but haven't installed it yet. I don't get many notifications right now

you'll never find a better deal than the go control closeout at home depot.

You can get a "chime" aka notification on your phone or leave a tablet plugged in somewhere at your house with the sound up or hooked to a speaker or you can get fancy is you have a sonos system and do all kinds of cool stuff with that.

Thanks guys. We inherited an old ADT system in our house and my wife liked the door chime until we had to disconnect it because the system would beep annoyingly every 24 hours. I bought a "dumb" GE sensor in the meantime, but my wife said it is too loud and annoying so I am in search of more smart and pleasantly sounding one.

Ok, the siren isn't for you then. It's more than just a notification.

here's the relay. the dark hall to the left goes waaaay back and our bedroom is at the far end.

a second relay (if intercom worked) would be useful for communicating from this room to the other end of the house.
