Looking at HD antennas soon. Will only be using 2tvs. Do I need an antenna for each or can I split the cables and just run 1 antenna
Depends on if you already have coax runs or are willing to make new drops if needed. If you've had cable at the house before you should be able to tie in the antenna where the main cable line came in and you're done. Most start the first split in the attic so you can install a nice big antenna in the attic near the split, run one cable, and done.

Are there any precautions I can take if I loaded TVMC/Kodi on my FireTV? New to streaming, and don't know if there are any steps to protect myself. Is it a bad idea to watch moves in the "In Theaters Now" section, or are you just as likely to get caught watching anything else?

You can get the Fire Stick or the Fire TV, depends on what you need but both can be sideloaded with Kodi. As far as antenna, I don't know much about them but people keep mentioning Mohu on here. Read the thread, it's only 4 pages and you'll get some good info.

This is the route I suggest you take.
Antennas Direct clear stream 4V. $129.99. This is not some crazy huge antenna. It is larger than the Mohu sky 60, but the range and stability is much much better.
Radio Shack Antenna amplifier
$66.00
Tivo OTA DVR $49.99 with a $14.99 per month service fee (Well worth it)
With this setup, you will get the best coverage, have an actual Guide like you do with your current leased boxes from the cable company, Tivo also has Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, YouTube, and other streaming services built into the system. What is great about this is when you are looking for a show, it will cross platform search to find what you want and give you all the options available to watch it or record it if possible. Also, with Tivo, you run the antenna to the DVR, then get a Tivo Mini and connect it together through your network. The Tivo Mini pulls everything from the DVR so you never have any signal lose by splitting the signal and you can watch your DVRed shows.

Either FireStick of Fire TV, both will side load Kodi with ease and is pretty fast. Make sure you install TVMC when you install it.

Depending on your location.
ABC, NBC, FOX, PGS, CW, etc. Each one of these also has sub channels. So it 4-1, 4-2, 6-1, 6-2, etc.

I say fire TV so you won't worry about caching or storage issues.

I'll get fire tv...with an hd antenna.....
Not sure what I'll need to sub to, to view what I watch....I just know I'll want espn for sure....Any suggestions that would cover movies and regular shows?

I just signed up for Sling TV. $25/mo (I opted for the sports package -- ESPN channels and SECN-- at an additional $5/month). No contracts, but when you sign up, if you buy 3 months, you get a free Roku Stick, Fire Stick, or $50 off the box variations.
Plus, Sling TV is watchable on Mac & PC, and iOS and Anroid phone/tablets.
SlingTV and Netflix and I'm good. I'll probably get an antenna pretty soon for the locals. Was pumped to cancel my cable...although I still need Cox for interwebz

Is there a fee to sign up for fire tv?
Posted on 2/17/15 at 8:19 pm to ibldprplgld
I am really interested in the sling TV deal, except I don't like it can only be used on one device at a time, and I've been told it's not really HD.
Posted on 2/17/15 at 8:20 pm to sharkfhin
Nope just the services you use such as Hulu, Netflix, etc
Posted on 2/17/15 at 8:34 pm to XxxSpooky1
It can indeed only be watched on one device at a time. The picture on my TV is Crystal clear on it, though.
And given it's been a week since its rollout, I expect new features will come quickly.

Question about antennas...if I live in a good area to catch locals fairly easy, what antenna would be an inexpensive reliable one to purchase?
Posted on 2/18/15 at 12:40 pm to sharkfhin
The one I posted is the only one I know that works really well that isn't crazy large.
Posted on 2/18/15 at 2:51 pm to XxxSpooky1
Got ya....I assume I just plug it into the main hub on my cable that runs thru the house right ? Thanks in advance...im not tech savy with this area....

Which antenna? Some points: Depends on where you live - what distance to the transmitters. In Baton Rouge, the transmitters are to the south, roughly across the Mississippi River from Addis. Most antennas give some sort of distance scale on their packaging, you can rely on it. Home Depot or Lowe's is probably best now, but Radio Shack might have some good deals before they go under. Since the TV towers in BR are relatively close together, you don't need a rotating antenna, a normal 'yagi' type antenna will do, just point its narrow end that way. There's no such thing as a 'digital' antenna, so don't buy the marketing hype. Don't use flat-lead cable, get good coax cable - usually RG-59. If you are driving more that one TV, you may want to get a bigger antenna to provide enough signal for all. With antennas, altitude is everything, the higher the better. Some subdivisions don't allow outside antennas, so you MIGHT have to go big and hide it in the attic. For HD, you'll notice a better picture than cable delivered 'HD.' Prepare to spend a little money on an outdoor antenna - but remember that's its an investment for about 5 years.
