Also..which device should I purchase to get this KODI app?
get a fire tv. roku doesn't run kodi. also fire stick is slow (for me at least). more people on here can help you with the technical kodi stuff. there is a big thread about how to do it, what apps to enable, etc.

if you're going to bypass a firestick. you may want to look into just getting a ~$100 Android box. A lot more bang for your buck than an Amazon FireTV.

Damn, Amazon Fire TV is $100
not saying stick won't work. the interface is just a little slower than i assume a firetv would be. also slingtv buffers some on the fire stick. no problems with netflix tho, and i don't get buffering when watching movies on kodi with the stick. just takes a while to navigate

So I have cut in the past and then added it back for football season. That was 2 years ago. I have an older roku2 a win7 laptop with WMC, PS4, i7 yada yada desktop, iPads, etc.
I am only wanting to steam to 1 TV right now. Through the Roku or PS4 it's easy but I want to be able to throw live TV into the mix without switching inputs. Trying to dumb it down a bit. Anyone try simple.tv or is TiVo the way to go? I don't want to go to Kodi because I am trying to keep it as simple as I can for my wife. Ideally simple.tv would work but I have heard negative things.

i can definitely see you there on keeping it simple for the wifey. BUT.
I've had a g-box for about 2 weeks now. Bought it for the girlfriend so i wouldn't have to torrent her a new tv show or movie every other day. i set it up with TVMC. showed her how to use it. and left it at her place.
....2 weeks later she's showing me how to clear the cache on it and other features i wasn't aware of
Once she realized that she could literally watch anything she wanted to without commercials and at a fraction of the cost of a cable package, she's picked it up and raves about it. she's not exactly tech savvy either.

I'm sure there is an obvious answer to this that I'm not seeing. when streaming a movie/show on Kodi, if you hit a button it brings back up the menu with the media still playing in the background. I can't figure out what button or how to exit the foreground menu without restarting the stream. Any ideas?
on a firestick FYI
Edit: right in front of me under the tools/full screen

What provider?
None. I have Cox Internet, that's it.

I recently taught myself how to use the Aeon Nox skin to make it more user friendly for the family. It allows you to customize the interface of Kodi...i.e. under Movies, you can make direct links to Family Movies in say Genesis and label it "Kid's Movies". When the kids hit the link on the interface, it takes them directly to that page in the add-on. You can make several folders that take the user directly to the place in each add-on they want to go with only one click in the interface. I've customized my Sports tabs, music tabs and tv shows tabs as well to get to my usual viewing spots with only one click instead of navigating several screens within each add-on.
It also allowed me to connect Genesis with Trakt.tv and collect all my favorite shows on my tablet on-line. When a new episode comes on in a series in my "Trakt.tv collection", it automatically becomes available under a folder I named "DVR". This isn't possible with Kodi's native skin.
There are several how-to videos if you do a search for "aeon nox skin customization" and "Genesis with Trakt.tv" that will make your families experience using Kodi much easier.

What's a DVR option if you have netflix, antenna and sling tv?
It looks like I can get all of the stuff we watch, but pausing, rewind, slow mo, etc for sports is a deal killer if I can't replicate it.

Glad you said that about watch espn app. I used the heck out of that with my uverse login.
Gonna check out tablo, thanks.

I'm with Meausjeaux. What's a good and EASY DVR option with slingtv and antenna? Guess we could drop to the absolute lowest UVerse TV option and keep their DVR.
Is there a simple dvr option that doesn't involve 56 steps and installing random crap onto roku's or whatever?

TiVo Roamio is going to be the easiest to set up and use. $49.99 then $15 monthly subscription. You're probably going to pay close to that anyway leasing the DVR from UVerse...It supports Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. and you don't need an additional external device to use it.
I personally like the Tablo as the best system for the money, but it is a little more technically challenging to set up and you need to have an external hard drive to use with it and a separate streaming device.

I just wonder why Tablo doesn't include a drive? That's like selling new car for $8,000.... that's awesome! Then you gotta go buy an engine. :|

Someone link the Breibart article on Drudge Report. In 6 months almost 900,000 people cut the cord! I'm impressed.
It's a great article.

I'll then show you 900,000 people that
A) Aren't married
B) Don't have kids
C) Don't like sports
