I'm looking for a consumer photography grade drone that isn't made in China. Am I out of luck? It seems like anything under $1000 is Chinese made and owned.

What's the issue with being manufactured in China? DJI pretty much has the consumer drone market by the balls.

That's going to be tough, all the good drones sub 1000 are going to be Chinese. Pretty much all the consumer level drones are going to be Chinese. You are going to have to build your own or seriously step up your budget to get something decent made elsewhere.
There are options for commercial use made in the USA, but they are quite costly because they are made for security reasons not to include chinese spyware and such.

But many government contracts prohibit the use of Chinese manufactured drones. I’m dealing with some of this now, and my oh my are the US manufactured expensive.

What kind of contracts are you using this for?

Mostly commercial real estate and developments, but I do some occasional work with a large mining company. They have a couple of government contracts and we have to be careful about the drone restrictions. If I had more work with them then I’d probably look more closely into getting another setup that wouldn’t be restricted, but it’s just not enough for me to justify the investment (really just a side job for me while I finish my degree).

Go to this site: Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems InternationalThis is an organization that I support on the very high end of commercial drones for use in long range surveillance and reconnaissance operations. I was at their large event in Chicago on April 30th. There are a large number of start ups there making some really great drones.
Bell Helicopter was there introducing their commuter drone prototype.

Any thoughts on Parrot drones? Aren't they French?

I have both a DJI Spark and Mavic Air and both are great. No idea why you are opposed to them
