Nexus phone running slow? Might have a fix.

i have the 5x. Been slow for months now and wiping cache has not fixed the issue. Just ran upon an article that helped my phone out tremendously.
They stated to go into settings/security, click on the settings icon to the right of Screen lock and turn off Power button instantly locks.
For some reason this internal feature was slowing my phone down bad. It's all good now. Hopefully this helps others with the same phones or similar.

My nexus 5x ran like a champ. Then several weeks after installing nougat it started freezing up and needing to be restarted. Wife's phone is doing the exact same thing. So naturally I assume they purposely bricked my phone so I'll go buy the pixel. Pretty disappointed.
I did a factory reset already and it didn't help at all.
eta: I did what you said though. We'll see it if helps or not.

I see nothing to the right.

right under the words device security should say screen lock. Do not press screen lock. You need to press the icon to the right of it.

do you see screen lock?
quote:No, nothing there. Could it be because I am using no security at all? No PIN or fingerprint.
Is there a settings icon (looks like a star kinda)?

Probably so. Mine had the gear icon he's talking about.

why aren't you using fingerprint? It's awesome. Not only secures the phone but it triggers the screen on function. No pushing the power button anymore

I don't need security. Didn't know about the power button thing. Let me activate that.

Wait, looks like I would then have to do something else. No thanks.

Incorrect. Only on a boot up. Not to simply wake the phone.

I have my phone in my pocket in sleep, when i want to use it i pull it out of my pocket and with my index finger i touch the back button at any angle(it makes you put in different angles when you set it up) and it wakes the phone out of sleep mode.

Well, I can't figure it out
All the fingerprint options come with something else.

it's a backup for when you boot up your phone. did you not just put in a pattern(or passcode) and test it out?

i read an article that its caused by nougat and there is nothing they can do to fix it. you can email and ask for your money back from wherever you got it but that's about it.
Gee thanks.

But my phone isnt rebooting. It's freezing up. Your issue sounds more like what others have reported.

He will learn after his phone gets lost/stolen, and then whoever finds it has access to all of his email, which is the key to accessing all of his other accounts. If he thinks it's too much trouble to use security on his phone, I wonder how much trouble it will be spending days or weeks trying to get all his accounts back.
