New TV - IR Extender Recommendations

So my old original plasma TV has finally crapped out and I'm about to go buy a new 65" LG C1. My cable box is in a cabinet next to my mantle where the TV will be mounted. I need recommendations on an IR extender device so my cable remote will work when the box is in the cabinet. I have a set up now, but I hired an AV company to do it and they sold me some remote I've hated ever since I got it, which required the technician to come back out and reprogram it if I continue using this remote. I don't want to go through that hassle and to keep paying this company for a remote I hate, so I'm hoping there is something simple out there I can DIY and use with the cable box remote. Any suggestions appreciated. TIA.
