Look for around a 50ish size-wise. Open to LG, Samsung, Sony, or Vizio.

Leaning towards the LG 50UM7300 or the Samsung UN50NU6950FXZA. Costco has them both for $329. Will only use apple tv with it.

Don't suggest TCL, I'm can't buy that one.

best bang for the buck at costco and you're ignoring it.

55" 5-series TCL $289. I saw it yesterday. 50" is $259.

eta roku beats the shite out off appletv baw and it comes included with the tv. you can always hook your shitty appletv up to another port too but if you do that you're gonna end up preferring roku.

I've got a 65" TCL in my bedroom. Apple TV 4k plugged into it for 2 years. I tried using the built in Roku at first, but it was shitty. Not to mention the tracking that TCL and Roku do. No thanks.

ETA: 2019 and we still can't use most unicode characters on tigerdroppings?

so you admit there are thousands of Apple TV units out there incapable of running common apps that other units have allowed...or provided a way to download for years.

Your solution to those users is that THEY are wrong not Apple and they should just need to fork over a few hundred dollars for latest box that supports both contrast and tint.

Planned obselence brought to you by your friends at Apple. How the hell did they get away with releasing a smart app box without the ability to connect to the app store to add new apps? Apple app store came out when...2007? Some could release an update by easily to all units that add that feature..but they won't because they're Apple.

Apple apologists are always like nuh uh, just get a newer doodad.

In the world of technology hardware needs to be updated over time.

I guess in your home you are still using a rotary phone, watching your console TV, using betamax tapes, and listening to cassette.

Do you pull out a road map when you travel ?

Is it hard finding a pay phone ?

How’s that beeper holding up ?

What’s it like having to hang your laundry out to dry ?

What’s it like having to mail checks for your bills ?

When you write checks at the grocery store you holding the rest of us up brah.

yes. You think I'm going to be all in on Apple and not be able to use Plex???

They added the App Store to Apple TVs in 2015.

You left out the word "all".

In typical Apple fashion they left the gen1, gen2 and gen3 Apple TV users out in the cold because adding the app store might mean the lemmings may not jump on the upgrade wagon.

you're comparing apple adding a single app to millions of apple tvs to using a paper road map.

Ok.

Apple reported that it sold 13 million Apple TVs by the end of Q1 2013

Lot of suckers out there.

You act like those 13 million+ users don't still exist in 2019. People could only buy the Gen 3 until late 2015 so add a few 10s of millions to that number.

"Just buy a newer model for a couple hundred dollars. We swear we won't frick you this time! Really it's better than that $25 Roku or $25 fire TV! Really!"

Just did a quick inventory of all my electronics I currently use. In my home, car, and boat the oldest piece is my media stream, 2nd gen Fire TV, it is a hot POS currently. Looking to upgrade that.

What should I buy ?

But I agree...any piece of hardware has a life of 5-7 years.
