Probably a stupid question, but I’ll let guys smarter than me figure this out. I’ve had this modem/router for a few years now. It says it supports Download Speeds up to 343 Mbps. My Cox plan is for 250 Mbps. I’ve done multiple speed tests and they consistently say I’m receiving 80 Mbps.

Do I need a new modem, or is this on Cox to fix on their end, or is that just how life goes?

Are you doing speedtests through WiFi? Plug directly with network cable and retest. Somewhat old and you could probably do better for fairly cheap.

That is a DOCSIS 3.0 modem. Cox is probably limiting the speed you can download due to this.

You need to get a DOCSIS 3.1 modem and then call Cox to give them the specs of the new modem.

I had a similar issue with my DOCSIS 3.0 modem. I was not getting 250 meg down. I purchased a new 3.1 modem and now I get about 290 meg down.

Here are some best 3.1 modems

Thanks for the responses! I’m going to Cox tomorrow to cut the cord, but will keep internet service. I will ask about DOCSIS 3.1.
