True confessions - asleep at the wheel for the Windows 10 free upgrade deadline. The AC adapter I ordered for my WIN7 laptop got delayed - arriving AUG10.
How do I get a free WIN10 rain check from Microsoft?

Alleluia..... and thanks for that. I turned my Dell Laptop over expecting to see the product key, but it wasn't there. All my hard copy stuff is long gone. I did a little searching and ran across this free utility that scans your system for the key. Pretty slick...

Have you checked under your battery? Completely take it off and look where the battery was. Most Dell laptops hide them there.

Open a command window and type:
wmic path softwarelicensingservice get A3xOriginalProductKey
Then hit enter, this will display the product key without third party software.
ETA: Be sure to right click the command prompt when opening it and select to run as administrator so that the command line in the window is
C:/WINDOWS/system32>

quote:Well - I'm glad you asked. I was a late adopter for WIN10. Actually the last week. Upgraded my desktop, but when I pulled my laptop out of mothballs to install WIN10, discovered my A/C adapter was capute. Ordered a new one, but it has been delayed. Satisfied? Good. Now go do the right thing.

2 things: first, I wouldn't be upset if I couldn't go from 7 to 10. 7 is just fine.
second, on the computer I did go from 7 to 10 on (an old desktop) I have had fatal errors on it causing it not to work. It's happened twice and now the computer is a large paper weight at the moment, thanks to 10.

If you say you use Assistive Technology, you can still get the free upgrade.
Microsoft Win 10 free upgrade.
However you only have a few more weeks to use the loophole.
Microsoft to end the Assitive Tech loophole soon.
