Microsoft Outlook - Email deletion problem

Hoping some of you I/T gurus can assist me with a problem that even my IT department can't fix (or just doesn't give a shite).
We currently use Office 365 suite. I have a desktop computer that I use when i'm at the office. I have a laptop that is at home that I use when i'm working at home. When i'm at home, I use NetExtender to connect to my internal domain server, which give me access to all our shared folders and proprietary software. I also have remote desktop connection (RDC) when I need to log onto my office desktop for whatever reason.
That's my setup.
Now, I've tried googling this but have no idea how to word it in order to search for it so thought i'd try here before going to reddit.
I have Microsoft Outlook on my home laptop and of course have it on my word desktop. When I open Outlook on my laptop (not connected to RDC) it shows that I have 400 emails in my inbox. When I go to Outlook on my work desktop via RDC, it shows that I have 358. It appears that Outlook on my laptop is not synching with Outlook on my desktop.
I thought Office 365 was in the cloud so it should sync, but maybe i'm mistaken?
Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this so i'm not deleted things twice?

I'd start by recreating the mail profile on the one you suspect isn't syncing.

You're right that it's in the cloud and should just sync, but it depends on a few factors. You may have accidentally turned on "work offline" mode, caching may be on in Outlook and the ost file may be corrupted, etc.

Delete the OST file on home laptop and then reopen Outlook and wait 20 minutes. It is under c/users/yourname/appdata/local/Microsoft/outlook

What these guys have said. Delete/create a new profile on the one that isn't syncing.
Your work computer that you're remoting into likely has a lot of security policies and other RMM tools from your IT department that could be slowing down the sync. Also it could be using cached Exchange mode.
There's a chance your company could be using a hybrid setup, which has an onsite Exchange server that syncs to the cloud. If so that can cause sync issues if something is up with the server.

We're resisting going to Office 365 so we're still using our own Exchange. That said, there are some tricks you can try but I can't attest to how much good they will do as I have zero experience with 365 (so this is what I've found after consulting Teh Googlez).
If you don't absolutely need to be in cached mode, turn it off (if it's on).
---Click the File tab.
---Click Account Settings
---Click Account Settings
---On the E-mail tab, click the Exchange account
---Click Change
---Under Microsoft Exchange server, select or clear the Use Cached Exchange Mode check box
You may need to shut down and restart Outlook for this change to take place.
Other than that, I've found two options:
1. Close Outlook, open a command prompt and type: Outlook.exe /cleanips
If that doesn't work, try #2...
2. Start Outlook.
----Right-click the Inbox folder and then select Properties.
----In the Inbox Properties dialog box, select the General tab.
----Select Clear Offline Items.
----Select OK when advised Your data was removed from your Outlook data file (.ost).
----Select OK in the Inbox Properties dialog box.
----With your Inbox selected in the Navigation Pane, press Shift+F9 to force the resynchronization of your Inbox folder.

If they haven't tried at least those three things, they absolutely suck. If they've tried them and it still doesn't work there's likely some obscure cached file which isn't being cleared/emptied. An uninstall/reinstall might fix it, or else it might require a complete re-image (which might or might not be worth the hassle of being without the laptop for a day or two).
