Purchased Eero mesh WiFi system. Already have Arris Surfboard SBG7580-ac gateway combo modem router.

Went through instructions and enabled bridge mode on the combo modem router which should turn off router and allow Eero to be router. After enabling bridge mode and connecting Ethernet to Eero, then laptop during multiple tests....my modem is not spitting out the internet. Laptop doesn’t think Ethernet cable is plugged in.

Any suggestions? TIA

Disable the WiFi on the surfboard first, then place in bridge mode.

I actually didn't even place mine in bridge mode...just went into the router settings and turned off both the 2.4 and 5ghz signals. But thats all TP link said I needed.

Those have 4 Ethernet ports on the back right? Have you checked all of the ports to see if any of them will link up?

I have checked all 4 ports. Going to try the first two suggestions when I get home.

My issue is that the modem won’t spit out internet via the Ethernet at all. I fully reset my modem and connected it to the laptop with the Ethernet and my laptop doesn’t recognize it’s connected.

Think I’m just going to buy a new modem that is not a combo.

Was it working before? Who is your provider?

It might be that when you put the modem into bridge mode, it only allows 1 connection. Try resetting the modem and plug only your laptop in. If it works, plug your eero in and see if it is able to get a connection.

were you able to resolve this?

I was not successful. I have my eero packaged to be returned, but I just saw this message thread....did it work?

eero newbie here as well i dumped my overly-complicated ASUS MESH router network and i'm very happy.

so first things first:

- problems connecting to modem-router combo

The takeaway from that link: CALL EERO!! THEY WILL SOLVE ANY ISSUE. Do this before you return it. They are hard-core support and won't leave you hanging.

- download the eero app and follow directions up to where it tells you to unplug your modem. i don't have service at my house so i had to make 100% sure i was ready to go before starting because once i pulled the asus out, everything was down.

- you will have to unplug everything including all your switches if you are splitting ethernet out to various devices. none of what you had before will work. turn it all off. EVERYTHING.

- plug your eero in, connect ethernet from your modem to the eero.

- NOW turn the modem on and let it do its thing.

- plug in eero power cord and wait for it to show up in your app

- once its there it will tell you it will take some time to setup. GIVE IT PLENTY OF TIME. eventually the blinking light on the eero should turn solid white and the app will guide you through adding a password, etc.

- go ahead & set up the other nodes at this time. get all of this up and going before you start going back to grab your devices.

- once your eero system is good, start turning shite back on. i made sure i set the app to notify me each time something appeared on the network so (a) i know when something is jumping on my wifi and (b) so you can give them friendly names. trust me you want to name your stuff if you're like me and you have 100+ devices.

- power on your switches, *THEN* power on any of the ethernet devices so they can all register on the new network and get new IP addresses. again, you want to see as things come online and note that on your app. switches will have their own names and the devices connected to them will as well. IMPORTANT- for windows devices you'll have to specify if this is a private or public network or it will default to public. Very important to make sure you mark this as a private network so you can share PC resources, remote in locally, etc.

- start re-entering your WIFI crap on your TVs, media streaming devices, alexa dots (these are pretty easy to get back online..i just walked from room to room and called 'alexa' so i could tell if any weren't back up), laptops, phones, smart watches, smart hubs, cameras (dont forget about your ring doorbell or security cameras!)

- avoid the 2.4ghz crap until the end. if you have crappy chinese apps that require your PHONE to be on 2.4ghz to see & connect, say, smart plugs..you'll have to find a special place in the eero app to do that. i'll go over this in a sec.

- once you're mostly up and going, i would advise locking certain devices (like media servers, pcs that you remote into, etc.) so their IPs don't change. this will help you down the road.

- plex will need a hard-coded IP address and sharing PORT now if you want remote users to access it. you'll have to select the PC (you named it above so you can find it easily right?) and then follow the prompts in PLEX to find the correct port to forward. then go into the eero app and add that port (enable both options) and you're done. very easy.

- ok, back to the 2.4ghz crap. if you have a bunch of smart lights, cameras, plugs, etc. that use shitty apps to create a temporary 'bridge' wifi to push your new wifi settings to you'll have to do this:
--> in eero go to 'settings' then look for 'troubleshooting'
--> click 'i can't connect my 2.4ghz shite' option
--> there will be an option to turn 5ghz off for 10 minutes (you can't set which band your device uses on eero) and click that.
--> you have 10 minutes to get your shitty 2.4 chinese device online.
--> repeat/reset the 10 minutes for every shitty 2.4ghz device until they're all online

that's all i got. i have to say i thought i would hate losing all the customizability of ASUS and using an 'ios like' app but you know what? asus can suck my dick i'm so tired of constant firmware updates and my power going out and the mesh screwing up and having to climb on top of my bookshelf to pull the power on a mesh node because it stopped working. i'm DONE.

so far my only major complaint is a lack of free DDNS options. i could plug in my dyndns to asus and eero wants to make you pay for that.

- oh make sure you update the firmware on the eero right away.

- i created profiles to manage my kids devices (piss off dad and watch your entire connected world disappear with one click)

- don't forget to turn on 'ad blocking' for each profile as well. you can block ads by user/profile

- ignore all the 'trial' crap. you don't need any of it. eero will try to sell you a bunch of shite initially until you tell it to stop.

so far i'm very happy which means eero will probably discontinue this product in 6 months.
