Managing contacts imported to new Iphone

What’s the easiest method to edit the contacts I sync to a new phone? Like many of you I’m sure, I’ve got several hundred contacts I’ve collected over the last 20 years that I don’t need and don’t want in my new phone.
Anyone have any advice or tips?

Are you synced to a Mac or a PC? Delete the contacts off the computer. YOu can shift and select all.

I have a few gmail accounts that I use as contact lists on my iPhone.
I've always thought the iPhone should have a way to archive contacts and get them off of your main list. I attempted to do this with the multiple contact lists, but it's still a hassle.
