Lagging issue with Bluetooth mouse on my desktop

I have a Logitech M535 Bluetooth mouse connected to my desktop computer (basic HP tower). About 2 weeks ago it started to have significant lag while playing a game (Civ V). This is all I really do on this computer other than the kids using it for homework. I switched mice (have the same model for my Surface tablet) and the problem was still there. I can reboot and the issue will go away momentarily, but if I quit the game and come back later, it happens again. I've already uninstalled the Bluetooth adapter, reinstalled, and made sure the driver is up to date. Not sure what else to do other than just get a wireless mouse with a USB dongle. Any suggestions on the culprit causing this issue?

Do you have anything else connected on the tower that could be causing interference? Also what kind of desk do you have? I've seen this happen when the tower is underneath the desk and the top is too thick and blocks the signal...and I've seen this happen with desks made of metal. Built-in bluetooth receivers tend to be weak and have a lot of issues...I recommend getting a mouse with USB dongle.
Also I know this sounds like a dumb question but have you checked the batteries in your mouse?

I had this same issue with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard trying to play Diablo 3 a few years ago. Read the tech support about the problem and it was recommended to use a wired mouse and keyboard to play the game. Technical issues, blah blah and reasons why Bluetooth was bad. Got a wired keyboard and mouse, never had the problem again.
