I believe you have to either jailbreak it or own a mac to get it on to your phone.

You can jailbreak, use Xcode to install it, or create a builds.io account ($9.99/year) and install Kodi and a bunch of other apps.

I've never jailbroken a phone, and this is my first iPhone ever.
Is it worthwhile for a n00b such as myself to attempt it?

Honestly, I would just get a fire tv and do it at home. If you really watch a lot of content on your phone then it's worth it.

If you're above iOS 9.3.3 you can't jailbreak. If you're on an iOS version than can be jailbroken then it's definitely worth it and it's easy to do. The easiest way other than jailbreaking is to create a builds.io account and pay the $9.99.

For some reason there hasn't been a jailbreak in over a year. And the new IOS can't revert back to an older version to allow you to jailbreak the phone.

Yeah I've done it with Fire Sticks in my house, a couple of them.
And, since it's the iPhone 7 Plus, I have IOS10.
