Currently I'm trying to teach myself SQL, visual studio, app development in xaml with c# code behind...but it's just for one project. It's not as easy as I thought it would be, and that's an understatement.
Without prior experience with these specific things, it would take a seasoned programmer weeks to months just to get mildly proficient with all that. That's on top of the years of experience required to get a good grasp of programming itself. It's going to be a rough ride coming into all this cold.

Outsource it. If you think this app will evolve a lot (and if you will be the one doing it), then just write up an RFP with the very basic foundation specs of what you need. The data schema, the types of reports, the target platforms, (optionally) the specific languages you want to use, etc.

Once you have something that works, it should be much easier for you to see what the code is doing and modify it for changes in the data or reports required.

Or you can do like many (most? all?) professional developers do and just google every specific task you want to achieve. I would bet that you could patch together everything you need just from example code on stackoverflow, given enough time.

Yea, not good.

My boss doesn't see any task as impossible. I have until COB to figure out out much LN2 boils off the shell (bath) side of an intercooler, only this thing is one off LOX subcooler on a rocket launch stand, with who knows what insulation on the outside...

Basically they had a 12" relief valve set at 0.5 psig and they want to know how much LN2 they are going to save by putting a 6", 12 psig RV...but they have no idea how much they were losing. Sure, we'll figure that out...Gaston, get them an answer...but 'program' it in MathCad because everyone likes pretty graphs.

frick.

I use 3 all the time, but I recommend you make them all identical - if you have a bigger/better of the 3, you will tend to use that one more and waste the potential of the 3-monitor set up. If you have a large/bright/higher res main and identical twin secondary monitors, that might be the second best option.

Viewing position is important, too - if you have to crane or turn too much to use all 3 monitors, it's probably overkill as well.

I have two landscape and one on the right that's portrait. I use the portrait monitor just for my terminal while coding.

That's a good person to be for job security. Knock it out the park man

In other news, I have a 3 monitor setup (25"/27"/25") for my home system. I only have 2 at work and I feel lost without the third. Only so many spreadsheets, HTML/CSS docs and PDF's can fit on 2 screens. I'd have 4 or more if I had my way at work. Have 3 other monitors that I'm not using at home but only have so many video ports on my home PC (Asus ROG C20). My work computer on the other hand is a fricking hot mess...

any advice

Don't reinvent the wheel. You can probably find something on codecanyon or hotscripts that you can modify to fit your needs.
