Is android auto wireless compatible with my S8+?

I bought a new pioneer unit with android auto wireless.
My current phone is a S8+ with android version 7.
I'm seeing that Android auto wireless is supported with my phone, but other places say all phones with android version 10 or better.
Can anyone tell me for sure? Obviously, it's not working like I expected it to, so I'm curious.

I wasn't aware Android Auto worked at all wirelessly

It never has in my 2020 Ram that I'm aware of. I always have to plug in

I dont think 2020 vehicles came with them. This is an aftermarket stereo.

Been trying all weekend to get it working with my aftermarket Kenwood unit from my S8+. Just about ready to give up and build a Raspberry Pi 4 controlled touchscreen for OpenAuto Pro.

My android auto only works wirelessly if I am connected to MyGMC Hotspot. It will not work unless connected to wifi on my GMC.

That's how all wireless Carplay/Android Auto works. It makes a wifi connection to the head unit.
