Is a 2019 Macbook Air still a decent buy?

Looking at this one
Would mainly be a personal fart around laptop to compliment my work laptop. Will bring back and forth to work just to have for personal use. email, web, youtube, etc. only work related items I will have on it is micriosoft 365
Really is a proof of concept to myself that I will actually use it before dropping $1000 on a new one and then not using it after I week. If I use this one consistently for a while, I'll look into getting a new one

Shoot for at least the M1 or M2 chip. You should be able to get one pretty affordably. Im still using an M1 Air w/ 16 GB RAM

It’s a decent machine but not good for a Mac because software vendors have been building for a completely different architecture for most of its long life.
It might be fine to try but battery life and performance will be bad. Couple that with a 6 year old battery and I doubt you’d enjoy it.
If you just want to click around or get better iPhone backups and integration without worrying about battery life, it’s fine.

May just find a decent M1 off Swappa then if that will make a significant enough difference

I can't comment on the other, but my M1 Air is still running smooth. Granted, I don't use it for ton other than basic at home browsing and media watching, but I would recommend one if it was kept up with.

I've owned a number of Apple laptops through the years. The Macbook Air I bought in early 2020 (still the Intel chip) was by far the worse Apple laptop I've ever owned, and that includes the touchbar Macbook Pro. It was also the first Apple laptop I got rid of. Surprisingly, Apple gave me close to $300 when I traded it in on the latest Macbook Pro.

Thanks for the info. Think I’m going to at least get the M1 chip when I make the purchase

You want at least an M1. Some of the apps no longer run on earlier chips.
