My iPhone now announces I have exceeded the number of call blocks allotted to my phone. Meanwhile spam calls march on daily. FUBAR.

Spammers spoof numbers, blocking them is a waste of time

I set my iPhone to only take call and texts from people on my contact list, everyone else goes to voicemail. This is a simple, cheap way and more effective than any paid service. I get no more junk, and I check voicemails at my leisure.

calls from unknown numbers on your iPhone, go to Settings > Phone > Silence Unknown Callers and turn the switch to ON.

To turn on call screening on an iPhone running iOS 26, go to Settings > Apps > Phone > Screen Unknown Callers and select Ask Reason for Calling. This makes your iPhone automatically answer unknown calls, ask the caller to state their name and reason, and show a real-time transcription so you can decide whether to pick up.
