Is there any good reason to buy one over the other? I hear the camera on the X is outstanding BUT it is much higher than the other two.

Working in a repair shop, I've seen all 3 so far...
The only 2 that are up for debate honestly are the 7 and the X.
The 8 is an iPhone 7 with wireless charging, that is all. And they really f'd up the design compared to Samsung, so no repair shop at the current time can repair the back of the 8 or X if you crack the glass on the back.
The 7 is a solid phone, the X is a great phone as well...and I'm sure you would be able to use it to the full extent or somewhat close. We get a lot of people in that have no idea how it works and bitch about getting used to it...when in reality if you don't use the phone that takes advantage of the benefits...better processor, overall speed, better camera, and all the little software gimmicks apple put in it, then why did you get one.
So IMO if you want just a solid phone in general, I tell people to get a 7, if you want the newest greatest thing then get an X. Don't waste your time on an 8 that currently the only major upgrade is unfixable for the foreseeable future if you break it.
I currently have a 7 and it's a great little phone, but I'll be going back to Samsung after this upgrade period.

Not true about iPhone X availability. I just ordered an X last night from Apple and it is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. Also the closest Apple store to me has every model in stock.

PS: You're going to have to wait til next year to get an X, currently apple is only fulfilling preorders from the early November sign up...Stores won't get them regularly until next year it sounds like.
That's weird, I ordered a X Sunday night and received it on Wednesday. Space Grey 256

Then why does it tell me if I order by Dec 18, I will get delivery for Christmas?

Sorry for the misinformation, I haven't seen them at the store I was assuming you couldn't get them yet. Didn't realize you could order them, I've heard from people that the stores will not get them til next year.

I purchased the 7+ for my wife as soon as the price was reduced when the 8 was released. She loves it. The camera is great, fast, good battery life. Really has no flaw except for the wasted space of a home button. It has the best benchmark scores on iOS 11 of any iPhone.
I just purchased the X. I really like it, but it wasn’t worth the money. Coming from android, I just always hated the home button and didn’t want an iPhone with one. I do really like the gestures of the X.

What are you talking about? Didn’t the X do away with the home button? Am I on drugs?

That’s what he is saying.
He didn’t want a phone with a home button. So he got a X since it doesn’t have one.

I have an X, wife has an 8+ and both have GREAT cameras.
This is a good article on the cameras
“In conclusion, there isn't much of a difference at all between the iPhone X and iPhone 8 Plus when using the wide lens. Sharpness and detail are the same, but we did notice that most of the 8 Plus photos were warmer. Some prefer the warmer look, but the X seems more color accurate to what you'd see in real life.
As expected, the most substantial upgrade is the iPhone X's telephoto lens. The imager's stabilization makes for a sharper image and keeps photos nice and sharp, while boosting low light image quality.
The iPhone X is definitely the clear winner here with the telephoto improvements and added features like Selfie Portrait mode.”
