IP Phone w/ Ethernet Plug Only WiFi Issues
I have a work IP phone that has an Ethernet port only. My router is not placed in an area where I can run an Ethernet cord to it, so I bought a WiFi extender with an Ethernet port built into it.

My issue is that it works, but only works intermittently with incoming calls. The lights are always lit to show that it works, and I can always make calls using it. When incoming calls come, they sometimes go straight to voicemail. Oddly enough, I can always receive calls shortly after calling, but then it seems to stop.

Any ideas why this would be the case? Is there a setting to fix this?

Bought a WiFi extender is your main issue. Get a google voice number instead

The wifi extender is not ideal but will work ok if it's not too far from the router. How far are we talking and how's the normal wifi signal?

Also get into your router and look for a setting called SIP ALG. Most systems need that disabled. Or do a google search for you router model + voip and see if there are any additional settings that need to be changed or if it's just simply incompatible with voip.

About 10-15 feet. I’d say the signal strength is pretty strong.

This is the phone we use at work, so that’s why I’m using it.

This

It causes problems for many many people. IDK if it's a terrible protocol or if implementations of it are terrible, but it almost always needs to be disabled.

I changed the settings to disable SIP ALG, and that seems to have done the trick! Hopefully, it stays this way.

Thanks to all of you for the help!

Your IP phone doesn't have the ability to forward numbers (like, to your cell)?

Looks like u solved the issue. If you have problems later, another option is to use powerline networking to avoid wifi and give you a more consistent and reliable ethernet connection.

I'm sure it does but what if it's his personal cell? I'm sure he wouldn't want just anyone to have that. The office phone allows him to work "at the office".

And there other things to consider such as integrations, company policies, industry regulations, and even lack cell signal.
