We had a bunch of lighting last week and the power and internet went out. My internet is Cox (I know I know but it’s the only provider in my area) it took them 3 days to finally say that we should have internet back. So I get home Friday and all the lights on the modem look good but still no internet. Previously when we had lighting storms I’ve lost my modems. So before replacing the modem again I asked for them to send a tech to see why I keep getting a power surge over their line. The reason I say over their line is because the modem still powers on it just will not connect to my router. So he comes out yesterday and finds that they didn’t ground their cable coming into my house so he takes care of that. Then he starts troubleshooting the modem and gets nothing. I had already bought a modem so we replaced the modem and still nothing. So I said let’s see if something is wrong with my router so we change it out and we have internet.

So my question is what could be wrong with my Orbi. It boots up fine all the light say it should be working. I see it on my list of wifi connections and I can connect to but it has no internet connection. The only thing the green light where you plug it into the modem doesn’t light up when it’s plugged in.

Sound like interface port for WAN got fried or damaged…thus no connection from router to modem and thus no internet connection

That what I was afraid of. I have 3 satellites on my Orbi setup. Hopefully there’s another Orbi router model that works with the RBS850’s because I don’t think the RBR850 is sold anymore as it’s 2yrs old.

I think that will be an issue with these mesh systems as the years go on. Units will fail and there may not be a replacement available so the whole system will need replacement. I hope I am wrong but that is my guess.

Costs more up front but I will always recommend hardwiring when possible. It's not ideal but standalone access points can be mixed and matched across manufacturers so I can always replace an individual unit.

Did you try changing your password? This happened to mine, I have the RBR850 system too, I changed the password and everything started working again. It was a pain after that because all the devices in my house had to be updated with the new password. The RBR750 Router will work too.

I had saw that used RBR850.

I ordered a RBR860 from Best Buy for the same price as on Amazon.

I did a reset which changed all my settings, password, SSID back to the factory settings and it still nothing.

JFC there's more incompatibility than compatibility within the Orbi lineup.
