I'm building a back porch and will have 2 in-ceiling speakers and 2 yard speakers put in. I will be playing them off a home theater receiver, which will be inside in a central closet. The receiver supposedly works w/ alexa (musiccast). I'm trying to decide if I want to control volume w/ an echo by telling alexa to raise the volume or if I should use an inline volume control. Thoughts?

W/ the inline volume controls, I assume I cannot raise the volume any louder than what it's set at on the actual amp, correct? With that being said, do you set the amp to max volume? Are some inline controls better than others? Is there a reason I should NOT do an inline volume control?

You should have two settings in the setup menu of the amp. Fixed (use a downline volume control) and variable (volume controlled by the amp).

It depends on your use. Can you control the receiver through an app? Then I would forego external volume controls and use the app on your phone. External volume controls are not attractive and are prone to failure especially if they are locate outdoors.

ETA: Just remembered about the Alexa. Yeah, I'd use that but it's really not made to be located outside.

Its a preference thing imo. For example I put volume controls at the camp for the second zone b/c I didn't want to have to pull out my phone every time I wanted to adjust the volume. It also gives anybody the ability to adjust the volume.
