Makes we want to learn about f-stops and exposure and bokeh and get into photography.

Get a used Canon R6 Mark II mirrorless and an RF 50mm f/1.8 for that price.

I don’t understand the appeal of this camera at $3K.

Get a Sony a7iii and a prime or 2.8 lense. A7iii is an older model but a rockstar at a price point to get it and good glass for around 3k.
Thats if you’re really looking to get into it.

good glass
What folks new to more advanced forms of photography miss - people were taking legendary color pictures all the way back to the 1940s. By the 1960s, it was almost child's play (relatively speaking). What separates Joe and Jane Doe with their Kodak 110 or Polaroid (today would be the smartphone camera) and a novice with a SLR (today would be a mirrorless or, perhaps, a DSLR) is the glass. Yes, software has gotten much better at closing the gap, but at the end of the day, there is no substitute for good glass allowing capture of the maximum and suitable light in the composition.
A great photographer with an iPhone will still beat the novice with a mirrorless, because it is an art and a trained eye likely trumps all, but most folks are capable of taking immensely better photographs with access to better glass. Even a decade old DSLR is going to allow for fitting much better glass than a brand new iPhone or Android built-in camera can even contemplate.

Started this journey a few months back. Taken 50+ hours of classes and assisted on wedding/sports/portrait shoots with the best photographer in BR. It's a lot but very rewarding and fun
