Oh, I agree. My 87 year old mother can't operate a cellphone and most definitely couldn't navigate or even begin to understand the steps in the cut-the-cord thread. And keep in mind that baby boomers are still the largest age group in our nation and there are many boomers who have retired comfortably and share the perspective I conveyed in this thread. Translation: they are not worried about saving a few bucks on cable TV if it avoids technical hassle that they deem unnecessary.

Yep! My dad is the same way. He can barely operate the Hopper with Dish Network. He knows what buttons on the LG remote to swap to the antenna I hooked up for them to get their local NBC affiliate. For some odd reason, Dish puts them in a different spot beam that is 70 miles from them for locals.

If I were to ask him to operate the Roku I bought them, he would be completely lost. My mom handles that, but she didn't know how to use one until she stayed with me for 3 weeks after my wife and I had our kid about 2 years ago.

Their ISP options suck, so cutting the cord is a definite "no-go" for them. They wouldn't do it anyway for the same reason you mention.

Of course a woman gives her expertise on how do things a much easier way.

As long as you live somewhere with good internet. You will be fine.

Like others have said, you can make due with one device. When I first cancelled cable, only device I used was PS4.

I have since added a fire TV I use in the bedroom.

Yep, I can relate. My Dad dropped his shitty DSL because it sucked and became more trouble than it was worth. He lives in the sticks and it will be a long time before cable is available and fiber likely won't be there in what's left of my lifetime.

As an aside, the younger generations should be glad that us old folks still want cable TV because what do you think will happen as the cable TV business model fades and demand for internet bandwidth continues to increase? You guessed it, internet service prices will increase even more as demand increases and the cost for the cable providers will not be offset by their cash cow cable TV revenue stream. This is why data caps have been implemented with ISPs charging more for extra data/bandwidth usage. It is also inevitable that they will have to invest in fiber optic cable which won't be cheap either. So for now be thankful that Dad and Grandpa still want to watch LSU football, etc. on that good old cable TV.

I agree with GurleyGirl. I work in IT for a living and I love tech. Cord cutting won't cut it for me.

I want my shite to work without fail, and I don't want to have to frick around with it all the time.

I have my XBox One as the hub of my system using the pass through for my cable box, and I love it.

There isn't a service yet that has all the live college football I want in one place. Except for cable.

Cord cutting just doesn't work for the typical household yet. Still often too technical.
