I need someone to explain the current business model for wireless carriers.

Until today, I have been an AT&T customer for 13 years.
I have been raped by AT&T for years and stayed because I was an early iPhone user and was grandfathered into their old unlimited data plan and they couldn’t touch me. I survived the data cap era for that reason.
Last couple of years I have been paying $250 to $300 a month for two lines and two iPhone 7s.
Dumped one line and payed off my phone and my AT&T bill was sitting at $128 for one line free and clear of any phones being paid off.
Had I upgraded to an 11 Pro Max with AT&T, my bill was gonna go right to $190.
I bought an unlocked Pro Max and bought a Straight Talk unlimited kit for $55/month. Hell, they knocked it down to $50/month when I signed up for autodrafts.
Why would anyone do anything else?

I did this 3 years ago and have been telling people about it ever since.
There is no downside to moving away from the price gouging of the big 2 carriers.

Coverage? I want a product that works, and paying for that convenience is fine.
We tried going to TMobile for their awesome military rates and the phones were glorified PDA’s as the reception was so poor
I don’t understand how people make that trade off just to save a few dollars

I’m gonna be using Verizon towers which are better in my area.than AT&T.

Yea, we moved from Verizon post paid to Verizon prepaid and save a ton. Then we save even more by buying refill cards on eBay.

my wife had straight talk and it was below average. Went back to ATT. Some people don't give a flip if they have crappier service.

I'm on total wireless and get the same service I got with Verizon. I believe straight talk can work on either att or Verizon network. But if you had straight talk on att network then it is the same service minus some roaming agreements.

Thanks for mentioning straighttalk. I recently realized I have zero service with Verizon at my hunting camp which is a major problem. For now I went ahead and ordered a mobile hotspot from Straighttalk for cheap to use so I can text and WiFi call while I’m out there. Hope it works, assuming it uses ATT service which worked fine out there before I switched.

Make sure that you have an att network sim and device that you ordered. Straight talk uses both Verizon and att depending on which sim and device you buy.

Thanks. Checked with Straighttalk and they said that doesn’t apply to the mobile hotspots. Just phones and tablets apparently.

I’ve heard T-Mobile is very dependent as to where you are. In my area T-Mobile is super reliable.
We swapped to T-Mobile a year ago and have zero issues. Have two lines and our bill is $117 and that includes Netflix.
