I haven't purchased a windows computer since 2014. My employer has always provided me one, and I use a Chromebook on the side for shenanigans like this.

I'm about to take a new job and I have to bring my own windows laptop.

There's nothing processor intensive about the applications I will need to run on it for the job, except that maybe just maybe I'd like to utilize it for some music recording through the Focusrite Scarlett (I know, music board).

What are the good deals on laptops out there now?

DeluxePCsI use these guys all the time. Great deals. No trash bloatware on the comps. Extremely well done refurbs.

Thinkpad.

Asus makes very good ones too. Avoid HP.

What's wrong with HP? The company laptops I've had over many years were all HP and I never had a problem with any of them.

Educate me.

The "brand" HP may not be as much of an issue as the product line he has experience with. As an example, Lenovo has the Thinkpad. Within the Thinkpad line, there are the following different series: T, X, X1, P, L, E, C, and 11e.

And then, there are the IdeaPad, Legion, Thinkbook, Yoga, most of which have similar sub-series like the ThinkPad.

They all have different target markets. I used an IdeaPad 710s (ancient Ultrabook) for work for international travel for six years and loved it. The Surface 4 is what I'm typing on now; it came wiped as if it had never been used without a single fingerprint. I don't buy Dell because their logo sucks (I used to work there, but that has no bearing on my opinion.) It can be the little things.

Brand doesn’t matter unless you’re hacking boards and then ALWAYS Dell.

Just need Intel chip 12th gen or newer. 16GB ram and 2x thunderbolt.

We’re not talking database or gaming. Laptop is about having appropriate acceleration for task at hand and blue v red isn’t even remotely close right now.

What those guys said. It is the model not the brand. Dell makes shitty Inspiron models but awesome XPS and Latitude/Pros Plus models.

Find ones meant for business.
