I lost service to AT&T yesterday with my Moto G7 phone.

I assume it's related to them cutting off 3G. The phone was release in February 2019. I've had it for 2 years. I purchased the unlocked phone off eBay as a refurb. My account is with AT&T. I called AT&T yesterday and they said buying from a 3rd party was the issue. It doesn't make any sense since the phone hardware was built for the LTE network and uses an LTE sim card.

I don't know anything about the Moto G7 specifically, but different carriers use different LTE bands (frequencies) for their networks. If your phone doesn't support all of AT&T's LTE bands, you could see limited connectivity in certain areas. It's possible that what they mean "buying from a 3rd party was the issue" is that you purchased a variation of the phone that doesn't fully support AT&T's LTE bands (perhaps was intended for a different country, or was intended for a different carrier but is unlocked so will partially work on AT&T).

Thanks for the insight.

I took the phone to AT&T. They swapped the SIM and gave me a 5G sim. I'm able to make calls and text again. I left the store and the network flipped to 3G. I've never seen it say 3G before, just LTE. Now it doesn't get on the internet, but I can still make calls.
