Just had U verse installed. I couldn't even watch a 3 min. highlight videos with my old internet speed and in my neighborhood it got real slow from 8:00 p.m to 10:00 p.m.. That problem is probably also due to me having a 1st generation iPad.

Other than my iPhone, at home I only use a lap top (almost exclusively for iTunes) and the iPad, which I use for internet surfing. I don't play games but I do like to watch short videos (Ted Talks, youtube, etc.).

To take advantage of the U verse internet speed I have been told I need to purchase an iPad Air 2 or Pro. Do you agree? Basically, I am asking what I should be looking for to upgrade to a new iPad.

Save the money. Ipads/tablets serve zero purpose besides baby sitting kids for a couple hours. It's a totally pointless form factor and can't die soon enough.

Bs. Mine is a workhorse. I got a belkin keyboard case. Take notes all the time with it. I run mu netflix and Amazon prime on tv with a hdmi cable and adaptor.

Go to Apple store and get a refurb. One year warranty and new battery. $319 for Air 2.

As others have said, an upgrade is well worth it if you're looking to stick with an iPad for surfing/videos.

I wouldn't get the Pro as it would just be overkill.

Check out this site. It's Apple's refurb listing. And, unless you're storing a whole bunch of data on your iPad, you should go with the lowest capacity.

Sounds to me like your U verse pipe gets saturated from 8-10 (peak time) and that they are blowing smoke. What is your internet speed from your laptop during those times. speedtest.org will tell you everything you need to know. You can run the speed test on all devices.
