I would want something with at least a 2060 at $1k, but I love the form factor of that laptop

Guess it depends on what you ultimately want to do with it. Fair point made about that GTX card. I've been impressed with HP's Omen line in the past. Currently running dual 32" Omen monitors and they are quality.

I'm not firm on anything except the budget. Would like to stay under $1k. Looking at mainly gaming laptops in the 14" -15" in range since they have more power, better graphics, and better cooling. Replacing an old Dell Studio. Very open to suggestions on what components to look for and prioritize. I know RAM and HHD/SSD can be replaced so those are a little lower priority. Want a good screen, i7 or Ryzen 7 processor, decent video card, and 3+ USB. While I don't do much to push a PC, I want good cooling. From reviews Omen seems to excel at that. What are minimum specs would expect for a $1k laptop?
