How to set up network with home PCs

Hi, let me start by saying I’m ignorant regarding this so please bear with me.
Anyway, my wife has a home business and she would like to network a couple of laptops and a desktop in order to access and work on files without having to email or flash drive to share them. What hardware do I need? And what steps do I need to do to accomplish? Thanks!

You could also use oneDrive/Dropbox/etc. It'd be like having a shared hard drive between all devices and the added benefit of all those files being backed up in the cloud. This is what I do with my laptop and PC. Stuff I want to be able to access and work on on both computers live in the oneDrive.
