How often do you upgrade your smartphone?
As little as possible. Translation: until the wheels fall off.

My S6 edge+ is 3 years old now and working great but I have the itch for a new phone.

I'm probably going to finally upgrade from my Samsung Galaxy S4 that I got on sale at Best Buy.
So that would be, I guess Christmas of 2013, so about 4 years.
My phone history (as far as I remember):
S4
Blackberry Torch (free)
Blackberry 8820 (free)
Nokia Razr
I really hope the screen is as strong on the S8. I've dropped my s4 quite a few times from 3-6 feet onto concrete (including on its face) with no cracks; just a few milimeters of missing bezel.
Since I don't seem to break them, I typically use them until they become completely obsolete.

Purchased my Note 3 in 2012.
It was running slow and showing signs of needing to be replaced. Instead, I backed up all my files, contacts and text messages to the cloud, then did a full system restore.
It's now completely updated, all my files, texts and contacts are back in and it runs like a new phone. Why replace it?
