Trying to help my elderly parents select a home security system that includes outdoor video. Looking online it’s pretty overwhelming and hard to decipher. Can anyone share any links, resources, or advice on making a selection?

I am looking for the same thing. The ring bundle at Costco looks pretty good, it I am not sure if you can buy extra contacts. I have a lot of windows.

There's been multiple topics on this over the last couple years. Have you tried searching?
It all depends on what your use case is. Personally, I prefer PoE cameras so you only have to run 1 cable and not worry about power outlets. Do you want NVR? Do you want to record everything or just on motion? Assume a good/intuitive mobile app is preferred so you can check in remotely? What resolution cameras do you want (4-5 MP is standard, with 8 MP being high end now)?
Will be easier to help when you define your requirements. I have a Lorex solution I got after reading/researching in 2016. I've checked in on Amazon to look at other brands and of course read reviews.
