I like my 65ef9500 way more than I should like any material object. Blu rays look seriously incredible. Old black and white films look incredible. I thought my tv was good, then I spent $450 on a professional 7 hour calibration. It took it to a whole new level. Brought out all of the details in the dark greys and blacks while also reducing banding. I barely ever see banding in a well mastered movie anymore no matter the source. Ours is in a fairly bright room and looks fine. Mainly, I’m obsessed with it for movies at night with no lights on. Blade runner 2049 blu ray was the most recent to make my jaw drop multiple times. I feel it will keep looking better as I start watching more 4K content and movies keeping using better cameras (guardians of the galaxy two used some of the best out there)/ cgi keeps improving.

I waited and waited and couldn't get Massdrop to send a TV to Hawaii so I bit the bullet and paid the $2,600 to BB for the 65" C7. I love this TV. BUT, I haven't had it long enough to really check a lot of different things with it yet so to me I'm sure I'll be even more impressed. I think you could be happy with the Sony 900 or better 930 as well. But OLED is a beautiful picture and I wanted OLED for a while.
I also haven't done calibration and not sure if I really need to?

Not sure when you bought this TV, but if you used a credit card with price protection, you can price match down to one of the cheaper suppliers.
I haven't calibrated my E7, outside of trying out various settings from avsforum, and I'm more than happy with it. Maybe if I find 500 bucks in the couch (unlikely) i'll do a pro calibration down the road.

Camera technology has been way ahead of TVs for a while now. And it isn’t so much as the actual camera as it is the person behind it

agreed, cinematography is an underrated component of this equation

I bought it about 3 weeks ago and used an SPG Amex. Who would I price match it down to? Not sure if Amex does it..

65 inch TV is really big if you are watching it from only 6-8 feet away.
The difference in quality is more noticeable the closer you are. So, you would definitely benefit from an OLED.
You could save money and might be better off with a slightly smaller TV, but most current TVs go from 55” to 65”. Not many 60” TVs are available these days.
Most manufacturers showcase their new models at CES in January, and begin selling them later in the Spring. The 2017 models begin to drop in price once the new models are available, but sometimes bigger discounts don’t happen until later in the summer. Retailers will occasionally have March Madness sales, so the next month might not be a bad time to find a deal.

Nope it's a bait and switch...but this is one of the websites that other people have filed price protection claims with their credit card.

I will also say that I love how it is nearly a piece of thin art hanging on the wall. I love the minimal bezel and rear speakers (I don’t use them and don’t need them in a bar connected to the tv)

Everyone I talk to, and everything I read, all says the OLED are head & shoulders above all the rest of the TVs out there....but I’m not sure I can tell that much of a difference. Is it really that much better than all the other TVs?
I’m not a big gamer, and all we would use it for is occasional sports and movies. I’m worried about the burn out issues the LG OLEDs are having that I am reading about as well.
We want to get a 65” tv. We have a fairly narrow living room, and the viewing distance from the tv will be 6-8’ away. I can spend the $2,500 on the OLED, but is it really worth it to those of you who know TVs well?
Also, is $2,500 a decent price for this tv? Where is the best place to make this purchase? Are the prices expected to drop significantly in another month or two when the newer TVs come out?

You're welcome. If you have a Chase/Citi card with price protection, good chance you can get 400-500 off of that over time by watching joes tv or ebuyusa (bait and switch shops - but great for price protection "matching").
ETA: haha... Hobnail beat me to it...

FWIW, I bought the 55E7p (just a better fit for the space) and have been thrilled with it. I got mine for 1599 and already have my $500 price protection paperwork in, so when all is said and done, 1099 out the door, no tax and no shipping.

After reading through the comments on Slickdeals recently, I have a Citi Double Cash card on the way just for this purpose. Still can't decide between B7/C7 or 900E. It sounds like both are excellent TVs, but have their own set of flaws.

I’ve never seen an OLED TV, but the difference between an OLED screen on a cell phone and an LED is dramatic.
