Home Alarm question

I have an ADT alarm system, been having it for quite some time. I literally never set it, and really only want it for the beeps when doors/windows open.
If i call and cancel, I would assume the beeping would stop with shutting the alarm system down.
Is there a way to keep that portion of the alarm system working even after cancelling? I'm paying for the monitoring of the system at this point, and i don't need monitoring.

every system is a little different,
When you cancel monitoring it does not impact the alarm system- only the alert that goes to the company.
Everything else should work the same
Now if you have one of the newer high tech systems there may be some variance

if you contract is up, just cancel. system will still work the same as other poster said. it just doesn't call if there is an alarm.

First, make sure that you actually own the equipment and haven't been just leasing it - some of those contracts can be pretty scurrilous! If you are specifically not on a month to month basis now, the contract could have even been set up to renew automatically for an arbitrary period of time and you might have to notify them in writing during a particular time frame!
After the monitoring contract is cancelled, it is likely that the system would be able to be programmed to act as a local alarm system, meaning that there would not be any notification to a monitoring service for any reason - but it would still function locally, siren would sound, beeping on door/window opening, etc. If it is connected to a landline, I would disconnect it from the landline because a problem with the system could cause the landline to be unusable.
You may need someone to make a minor change to the programming if the system had been set up to beep or notify you via the keypad if it could not get in touch with the monitoring service, as many or most monitored systems check in with the monitoring service once a day.

thanks for the help. I assumed it would just completely shut off when i cancel it. my contract was for 3 years and that just ended.
