I want the best, crisp picture like it was in the store. As close as possible. When I watch something like Planet Earth on Netflix I’ve got it, but cable and other stuff it’s slightly off.

First of all does the HDMI cable matter? Guy at Best Buy told me it did and showed me a 4K hdmi cable. We’ve been using a cheapo.

Second, he told me you can YouTube the settings and I’ve heard of Rtings or whatever it is.

Can someone just link me to a site or YouTube video that dumbs it down for me? Like... set this, set that, and bam. Crisp and sharp picture.

Mainly for sports and Netflix.

I found that. After reading about 20 seconds in, my brain is in overload. I’m a noob with all this techno stuff.

ETA: it’s easier to follow than I thought. I’ll give it a shot.

But why does it recommend Movie mode when the Movie mode makes the color more yellow and dull than Standard?

Probably because planet earth is 4K, if you have the 4K plan with Netflix

As far as the in store settings, they can look cleaner because they’re playing blu Ray quality video made specifically for those in store displays. You’re simply not gonna get that quality with cable. And they’re settings in store are generally way too bright and vivid than what you would want

I’ve owned a couple of Samsung’s, currently have the ks8000. Here are my settings that I’ve found to be pretty solid for both:

Backlight: around 12-14 if it’s the 0-20 scale, depending on how dark or bright your room is
Brightness: around 50%
Sharpness. Anywhere from 0-10%. Don’t turn sharpness high at all
Color: 50 to 54
Contrast: 90 to 100
Tint: whatever the middle setting is
Color Tone: warm 1

Turn off any of the power saving modes, ambient light sensors, motion lighting or any of that crap. ESPECIALLY the auto motion plus settings. Digital clean view I think I just put on auto

A 4K display will upscale everything to 4K. Higher end displays typically do this better than others. With limited 4K content and most media still in 1080 it’s important to have a display that does this well.

with cable it's a compressed digital signal so more channels can be put on a 6 MHz channel space...
non-compressed is a better picture...

So is the 4K HDMI cable worth getting?
We’ve been using a cheap WalMart one

4k cable is a marketing scam.
