Help buying an older version of Galaxy Note

I’m completely unfamiliar with galaxy phones (only use iPhone)
Trying to buy father in law a new galaxy phone. He currently has Galaxy note 2.
We are not looking to get the newest models as they are too expensive. What’s a decent older model that would suffice as an upgrade while still staying in the reasonable price range of probably $200-400?

Not worth it. You can buy a brand new budget phone that's better in both specs and quality.

I have the Note 8 now so I'm selling my Note Edge which is the Note 4 with a little more special features (full functioning Edge screen). It's also unlocked so he can use it on whatever GSM.
I still have everything it came with (box, charger, etc)
If you want I'd sell it for like $150-$200.

Note 3. Does everything just fine. About to upgrade. Would let it go for $80, plus $10 for shipping. Nice thing with this is it includes an IR emitter, which I will miss, and you can take the battery out, but also add additional memory.

Perfect, it's been in a case since Day 1. I have 2 batteries that last decent, but maybe buy a new one after a while. The case I have is really good too and will come with it.

I just got the Note 8. Last note I had was the 5 and I loved that one.
