I have been running a Harmony hub and Elite remote for years and it has been rather flawless as most of my equipment was ran via IR blasters.

Well i upgraded my TV, receiver, and added a Shield. Well im having major issues getting the hub to control these new devices via IP. Hub cant find anything but the Shield and the remote doesnt connect to it. I have to manually put in the brand and model of the receiver, and that works. But when i do the manual input for the Samsung TV it doesnt control it.

Has anyone experienced this?

Is there a better way to have a single remote to control tv, home theater system, and video box?

I don't think there is any better.

I use the Harmony Hub for TV, AVR, Xbox, PS4, FireTV Cube and used to for the cable box.

Also use Alexa with it.

Did you try the help button ?

What model Samsung TV do you have ? Samsung isn’t very IP control friendly.

I haven’t exactly experienced this with Samsung, but I also cannot control my LG over IP. But I think the IR ia good enough. Can I ask why IP is necessary, particularly when you have the Elite remote?

I do prefer using a 2.5mm->3,5mm TRS cable into an IR distribution block and put either an individual blaster or audio cable (some equipment prefers ts, some trs). I don’t feel like it misses any commands. I don’t think you really gain any functionality using IP instead vs a particularly well laid out IR system with Harmony (I’ll acknowledge that with other higher-end remote systems that 2-way connection with apps and remotes is really cool- set volume to a number, set place on stream to specific time...- and useful, but that’s absent from Harmony features as far as I know)

8 series.

I mainly wanted it because even using the remote ir blaster you have to have the remote pointed at the tv. And I get lazy haha. I had a ir blaster on my old dumb tv. I pulled an extra cat cable I can use to wire in a permanent blaster if need be, just trying to figure out something without having to do that.

If it’s an older Samsung it’s not going to work IP. I have a Savant system in my home and my Samsung display, 2017 9000 series, has to be IR controlled. My Sony displays work like a champ with IP.

its a 2019 8 series. Looks like i need to wire in a blaster.

What about the shield? i havent dug deep in getting it connected because i was looking at the tv. But I dont this the remote was controlling the shield. With Fires i know i has to connect the elite to the fire as a keyboard.

If I'm understanding this right, you've done this before AND have a spare Ethernet cable back there.

But a recommendation nonetheless, if I may:
BAFX IR over Ethernet

Of note (and to reiterate above):
The Hub has 2.5mm ports. This uses 3.5mm ports. Don't be caught off guard by that.

so this is just an adapter so i dont have to splice cables.

Exactly. If you put it all back together and find $10 < tediousness of splicing those wires, I use these and they work well.

ETA: I mean, if you’re too lazy to point the remote at the tv, I thought I’d help facilitate the laziness.

Don’t know anything about the shield.

I understand what you are saying about having to point the remote. Ain’t nobody got time for that.
