I'm constantly getting a green download pop up with a down arrow on the left side of the pop up. I've searched on line for ways to get rid of it with no luck.

I'm 73 years old & know enough about computers to be dangerous.

Any assistance on getting rid of this nuisance pop up would be greatly appreciated.

Question?

Is the green download pop up I described in my original post considered malware? Thanks.

It might be malware. Download and run Malwarebytes and see if that gets rid of it.

Thanks. I did that earlier. The pop up still shows up occasionally, but no where near the frequency before I ran the Malware.

Have you looked to see if anything new has been added to Control Panel > Programs and Features?

Sometimes stuff like that can happen when you don't pay attention to something valid you're installing...

Check your browser for extensions/plug-ins that can be removed and uninstall any programs that may have been unintentionally installed. It's the simple steps sometimes.

I did that. Everything new is from Microsoft & looks legit to me. Thanks for the recommendation.

For whatever reason I can't copy & paste the 3 file names. I'll have to do it the old fashion way. Here are the 3 file names:

plug-in-container Application

plug-in-container.exe.sig SIG File

plug-in-hang-ui Application

Thanks for the help.

Sh*t. Is that because I uploaded it to OneDrive? Any other suggestions.

The file is a .docx file. Is that why you think it won't open? I've tried saving it as a Word .doc document but am not having any success. I appreciate everyone's assistance.

I switched browsers from Firefox to Chrome. That seems to have solved the problem.

I would offer remote assistance but I would also tell you to never accept remote assistance from a stranger.

Here's the first steps I think you should take:

1. Copy all your personal documents and photos to a USB drive or OneDrive (if you dont already have backups.)

2. Download, install, and run malwarebytes. Tell it to remove anything it thinks is suspicious.

3. If you do not have an anti-virus (windows 10 has a decent one built in) then go to bitdefender.com and install theirs for free.

4. Check your Firefox for unwanted extensions or plugins.

5. Run windows update and make sure you are current.

6. If you are on Windows 7 then upgrade to Windows 10.

7. Use Google Chrome or the new Microsoft browser that is based on Chromium.

8. get two-factor authentication set up on your most important accounts, including your Microsoft account.

9. Create a new administrator account on your computer and then make your own account a regular user. Use the credentials for that admin account for when you want to install something. If there are other users on your computer then remove them from the administrators group.

The first 4 items are critical. We can help walk you through any of these tasks if needed.

edit: or alternatively, just get a mac.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've already implemented most of them. As I wrote earlier, it appears as though switching browsers has fixed the problem.
