Hello 2012.....you shouldn't have to "root" a phone today to make the software usable.
Posted on 7/31/18 at 4:37 pm to LSU316
I have rooted every phone I have ever owned and always will, nothing to do with that.

Posted on 7/31/18 at 4:38 pm to AaronDeTiger
Well what does LG do now for the Pixel's they make? Let Google design them and then just make them?

What? The international version is the best version, they have the Samsung Exynos CPU's that offer more performance that are not allowed in the US due to the Qualcomm monopoly. This is why every Android phone in America has a Qualcomm Snapdragon, no other choice, even though there are superior chipsets out there.
Unlocked bootloader so it's able to be rooted out of the box in seconds.
My S8+ is the international version and if I get the Note 9 or S10 it will be international as well.

People give Samsung shite

but their designs are the best in the business with the best screen in the business and they've done a lot better with touchwiz/bloat the last year or so.

Well sure but you also have to catch up with the times a bit here as well, that was a thing more of the past than currently. TouchWiz is pretty fine now as is performance, you rarely see/hear of complaints with the S8 and S9 or Note 8 since Samsung stepped it up in that area.
More of a 2015 thing with Samsung.
They make the best Android phone in almost every way the last 2 years. 41 million devices sold.

Well Stock Beta P is out fricking standing. and To me that is better than "pretty fine"
IMO i would rather have a set down phone and vanilla android over top of the line Touchwiz.

Well I can't say I haven't ever used it. Other than reviews and sales and people not complaining that is about all there is to go off of.
Again, more of a 2015 thing.
You don't even have to root to use Nova Launcher do you? Doesn't that basically get rid of TouchWiz?
To each their own, I would rather have the superior device imo. Infinity display is the best display in the history of smart phones, exactly why Apple had Samsung use a variation of it for the iPhone X. Nothing matters more to me than the screen.

This is just kinda a thing i hate about other phone companies. A new version of android is released and people with Samsungs and HTCs and LG's have to wait like 6-9 months before they see any of the new upto date features of that new android version. And by the time these companies put their fingerprint on it, There is a new Android version out.
Of course you can root and flash the latest and greatest, but a consumer shouldnt have to do that, Like you said it isnt 2015.

i have to admire you persistence and enthusiasm for keeping up with the latest and greatest phones. i'm literally rocking a nexus 6 as i type this and haven't made up my mind if i'm going to upgrade to a Pixel XL or Pixel 2 XL.

Okay? Your lack of knowledge about is why.

Most of them are pretty quick these days.
And like I said, if you want to root you can, I will never own a phone and not root, I'm not going to leave significant battery life and performance on the table for something so simple and easy.
For average consumers, no one complains about TouchWiz or Samsung UI anymore, the S8 sold 41 million devices.

Probably my #1 hobby so I don't mind it, I love getting a new high end phone of my choosing and immediately heading to XDA where I've been a longstanding very active member for 5 years now and join up with everyone and start tweaking the shite out of my phone.
Just love that type of stuff.

Seems like it is, since it really hasn't been an issue for 2 generations now but you still bring it up.

That's awesome.
I wish I didn't start out with iPhone's but I have to give them credit for making their software so shitty and restricted early on that I had to jailbreak and teach myself. That's what got me into it.

i remember looking up info for my nokia 3650 (the one with the round phone dialer pad) and one of the first things i did was to 'patch' my SDA with the 'apple iphone 1 skin' when it was first announced (months before it was released)
i remember walking into work the day after the annoucement and getting shite from my apple-fan coworkers about this new 'revolutionary phone' then casually whipping out my SDA and going..oh will it look like this?

the looks on their faces was worth staying up all night converting my phone UX.
eta i think this is the first time XDA was sued by a big tech company. Apple made them remove the windows mobile 'iphone skin toolkit'

good times
