Also more in depth security and customization on the routing level.
+1 All these IoT devices (sonos, cameras, doorbells, tvs, bulbs, switches, etc) should be on a separate VLAN to isolate them away from your main network with trusted devices like PCs, phones, NAS, etc. Some consumer routers do have VLAN support but usually very basic.

Using this. Vastly outperforms any router you can buy off the shelf. And can do a whole lot more.
3x what I paid for something without 802.3at x4 when i frequently actually get WAN-->LAN of 90-98% of gigabit speeds I pay for?
Hard pass. Mine does all I need to and significantly more.

You could at a different card to it as easy as cake. Most people aren't going to want to deal with it though. But for those of us that like to tinker, it has endless amounts of options that you will never find on a consumer grade router.
I plan on running my own VPN on it to have secure access on my phone to my internal network. It also has network level ad blocking and malware protection. Also has intrusion detection. Lots of things that it can do with more power that others cant.
But sure, most people aren't going to be bothered with it. They just want to know how to turn on netflix.
