Getting a new phone on the same carrier with the same kind of SIM card.

Do I need to go up to the ATT store for them to switch out my SIM card to get my new phone to work, or can I just do it myself? I have the little SIM tool I need to eject the SIM card and both phones are androids that take the nano sized card. Obviously I bought the phone third party, it's a nexus so it's compatible with the network...so I'm assuming there isn't any activation that needs to take place.

Not you should be fine to swap your phone into any phone and use it immediately as long as the phone you are using is unlocked
If the used phone is not unlocked then there are steps to unlock it. I admit though I know nothing about android phones. Good luck

I only had to get a new sim because the size difference then I had to call in and set up my sim and give them the IMEI code.
I have a Nexus 5x which is not a carrier phone.
