I just bought a gaming pc and it is freezing when playing fortnite.
It’s a low end pc but would like to make adjustments to avoid this any advice? Here’s the specs..
Intel Core i5 9400F -16GB DDR4 2666Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super 6GB

It’s been freezing randomly. So lower graphics? I’ll try that. That stinks if that’s the case.

Monitor CPU and GPU temps while you're playing

Did you update all drivers? I would see which driver Nvidia has.

Like the game just locks? Or it stutters badly?

Locks where I have to force power down

Could be a host of things, but if I'm throwing a dart, I would say graphics driver. Try updating to the latest version. If you still crash, try a completely clean install, starting with DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller).
ETA: Second dart throw would be chipset driver. Third would be faulty RAM, which would suck to troubleshoot unless you have another set lying around.

Yeah this seems like drivers or heat.
If you can quickly reboot and immediately start playing for a while, then not likely to be heat.

Heat certainly isn't out of the question, but it would surprise me in this case. Neither of his core components are huge heat producers. Now, that doesn't mean he doesn't have a shite cooler seating, but that would cause severe throttling (that I assume) he would describe before the full lock up. Heat usually isn't the culprit for a full and immediate system lock, but it can certainly happen. But because of the internal logic modern processors have, heat is far more likely to cause "oh my god my computer is soooo slow" reactions than it is "my computer stopped working" reactions.

Just realized that this card uses a single 6+2 pcie cable. Make sure that your +2 is fully seated until you hear a click.

Thanks for the info. I updated the drivers and so far so good.

Graphics drivers should always be your first troubleshooting step for things like this, both because issues with them are so frequent as well as that it’s so easy to update them.
The short version is that drivers can cause your gpu to crash. Because a system will not boot without detecting all major components, it will also stop responding if one of your components stop reporting. So when your gpu crashes, it goes dark, and your system immediately locks.
Technically, there is a registry edit you could do that would allow your gpu a bit of time to recover before your system bails, but that wouldn’t actually solve your problem as your game would still crash.
